He may be cute, but he's no sub for Trainer Man!

After a three week hiatus, I am officially back in the gym with Trainer Man. There’s good news and bad news. The good news is that I didn’t drop dead or pull a hammy last night. More good news is that my heart rate was high which burned a ton of calories. He was able to modify the workout so that I didn’t injure myself but I still worked most muscle groups well.

The bad news is that I’ve got some work to do ahead of me. My workout partner while off (AKA Thing Two) wasn’t quite as motivated as Trainer Man. His workouts consisted of gentle ambling while peeing on stationary objects (Thing Two, not me). My weight was down about 3 lbs but my measurements and body fat were up. The words “Mack Truck” came to my mind when measuring my butt. Ugh, but it could have been worse. Much worse actually.

I behaved myself while I was off and didn’t use it as a free for all. I adjusted my calories down most days to account for the lack of activity instead of eating as usual. I celebrated my birthday and Thanksgiving with reasonable amounts of food and didn’t stuff myself like a turkey. All of those show huge progress in my new mindset.

I would have done the opposite of every one of these things just a short time ago. In fact, I would also have stopped at McDonalds on the way home after the disappointing Mack Truck news and threw in the towel. Last night I came home and had my chicken and veggies. Yes, I really did! That is progress in its truest form. I’m patting myself on the back for it.

I’m going to try to get back on track with cardio starting this week. More effort than just walking. It will be difficult because all this activity lately is chafing my incisions. Chafing equals itching so badly that I want to imitate a bear in the forest rubbing himself on a tree to scratch. Great image, huh? It’s bad itching, trust me.
