Announcing The First Ever AFQ Giveaway!

Print Friendly

CocoCardioI was recently contacted by iHerb to give a product a try and review it on my blog. iHerb is an online retailer of vitamins and natural products. I had never heard of them before and was curious since I’m obviously into health and fitness. They are the sole distributor of a product called CocoCardio™ from Madre Labs.

CocoCardio is a premium, 100% natural (non-alkalized) dark cocoa beverage enriched with freeze-dried beet juice powder. Well, I like chocolate in just about any form and beets aren’t bad either. I was intrigued when I read the description and wanted to find out more. The only other ingredient is Hibiscus sabdariffa (calyx) Extract which contains naturally-occurring anthocyanins, phenolic acids and other bioactive flavonoids. That’s it. No fillers, sugars, or other stuff.

Here comes one of the best parts… If you’re checking out the link with me, scan down to the nutritional info. Do you see it? Right there, 20 calories per serving. Yep, that’s right. Being a competitor on a pretty strict eating plan most of the time, I’ve got no room for add on calories. I skip the 140 calorie protein shakes because there’s no room for that luxury when a chocolate craving hits. Twenty calories is nothing and fits perfectly even in my plan. I was thrilled, but still wondering about the actual taste.

cococardio powderThe UPS guy arrived with my CocoCardio and the first thing I did after opening the box was rip open the bag and peer inside. It looked just like the Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa that I use for baking. It smelled just like it too. I flipped the bag over to find out how to mix it and got to work. I don’t even think I paused to set the bag down.

I decided to stick to the basic instructions the first time out, just for the heck of it. I mixed one scoop in 8 oz of hot water. It mixed in surprisingly well, no clumps like I expected for some reason. I took a sip and it was good! Almost creamy. Now I’ll say that I like non-sweet things like dark chocolate bars, semi-sweet chocolate chips and stuff like that. If you’re a pure Hershey milk chocolate bar kind of person, you might pucker on the first sip or two.

Cup of CocoCardioJust for you guys, I tossed in a packet of Splenda half way through just to see what that did to the taste. It made it much closer to a cup of hot chocolate with the sweetener and I think it’ll convert you guys over pretty quickly. I’ll still opt for the straight up personally. I can think of a dozen uses for this off the top of my head and will be trying them over the next few days. In my protein shake, sprinkled on frozen blueberries, mixed in my kefir, tossed on my roasted almonds, stirred up with my peanut butter, in my oatmeal.

Oh there’s more, but I know you want to know about the giveaway.

  1. I just found your blog a couple weeks ago and am so inspired by it!! I am a newbie at clean eating and weight workouts, but after hitting 3o my life needed a big change!

I’ve been wanting to try pea protein so I would get one of those at iHerb (not sure which one, haven’t researched brands yet). I have also been following you on twitter (@ErinErinP).

    • Accidental Fitness Quest says:

Thank you so much, Erin! I’m excited to hear that you’re giving weights a try. I’d love to hear what you think. Pea protein sounds interesting. I wonder how it tastes. I’ve tried soy and whey protein powders but not pea.

I updated above that if you already follow me on twitter, that counts for your extra entry. So I’ve got you down twice!
      Adrianne

  2. Donloree says:

Ooh! I have registered and already follow you on Twitter. If I unfollow and refollow does that count? I would probably spend my $25 on coffee and coconut butter – two things I have every day! They have interesting stuff. Intriguing! 😀

    • Accidental Fitness Quest says:

Hey, Donloree! I updated above that I’ll count you if you already follow me on twitter so I’ve got your extra entry. I love coconut butter! I’ve been known to put a dab or two on a graham cracker.

      Adrianne

  3. Great blog! I now follow you on Twitter. Nice to meet you 🙂

This product has me very much intrigued. I’m a chocolate lover and would love to know what it’s like. Like you said – counting every calorie. 🙂

If selected as the winner I would try testing one of their many stretch mark products to see if they work.

    I would also try this:

    Thanks! 🙂

    Kimmy

P.S. I am also going to re-tweet this giveaway!

    • Accidental Fitness Quest says:

Nice to meet you too, Kimmy! I’ve tried CocoCardio so far straight up in hot water and this morning in my coffee. I still am impressed that it’s not clumpy. Not sure why I just assumed that it would be. This afternoon I get to have 1 oz of peanut butter with my snack. I’m going to mix in a bit of it for a choco-PB treat. I’ll tweet to let you know how it goes. I want an update if you try the stretch mark stuff. I could use help there too. 😉

      Thanks for the re-tweet!
      Adrianne

  4. Deanna G. says:

I’d get the Bare Fruit, Cinnamon Apple Chips:

    • Accidental Fitness Quest says:

Oooh! Those look good. I didn’t even think about fruit chips. They also have mango. I love seeing what everyone would pick. Gives me ideas to tryout myself.

  5. If I won, I would try the translucent base!

    • Accidental Fitness Quest says:

Wow, that has some good reviews. I haven’t tried that one yet but I’ve seen it in magazines. Good luck!

  6. Donna B. says:
    • Accidental Fitness Quest says:

I love Isopure products. I’ve never tried this one before but I’m putting it on my list to try. I’d never thought about getting unflavored with all the hype on chocolate, vanilla, etc.

  7. Donna B. says:

I follow you on Twitter (simplydab)

    • Accidental Fitness Quest says:

Thanks! I followed you back and even entered a couple giveaways from your timeline.

  8. I’d like xanthan or guar gum to thicken my protein shakes and valerian to help me sleep.

    • Accidental Fitness Quest says:

Ooooh! Does that work to thicken the shakes? I must try. Never thought of that idea. Some of my shakes are like drinking flavored water. Great idea!

  9. @SOMERSKYS says:

I had another Almond Buddy after lunch. Thank goodness they are pretty low calorie. I do like them straight out of the fridge best. I put the rest in the freezer to slow me down. Tell me what you think after you make them!

  10. Gianna Patton says:

Wonderful giveaway – Thank you! =)

    • Accidental Fitness Quest says:

I was excited to get a chance to review and giveaway something that I could actually use regularly. Plus it’s chocolate so that was a bonus. I know what you mean about the energy. Coffee is my friend.
