me with spinachEver wonder how you’ll recognize me if you ever pass me out in public? It’s easy. I’ll be the one carrying a vat of raw spinach. Trust me, I stand out in the crowd with that in hand and you’ll have no problem picking me out.

Can you believe that I used to eat fast food several times a week, nuke meals with rip off cardboard tops, and sometimes even worse? Even when I was trying to eat healthy, I didn’t have a clue. Pasta with tomato sauce doesn’t count as fiber and veggies! Does this sound like you too?

Since I no longer eat like a typical person, there are lots of things that have become rather normal for me like carrying my own food supply. Give it a try and reap the health and financial benefits! How’s that for marketing? Seriously if I can do this, no one has an excuse. You just have to put your mind to it and want it.

It’s gotten a lot easier than it used to be to find healthy alternatives when I’m out and find myself hungry. I still have to special order some things if I’m really strict in cutting out fat and salt, but most places have grilled chicken and steamed veggie options.

Being a cheap person though, I typically don’t eat out. I take my breakfast, lunch and snack to work with me every day and I carry food with me on weekends if I know I’m going to be out for a while. You save a ton of money this way too. I’ve even taken my own food to parties if I don’t know for sure what will be there. I’ll warn you that you’ll get some strange looks, but that’s a whole nother soapbox for me to get on later.

Everyone talks about fast food being convenient, but think about it. Nature is way more convenient. Apples, bananas, pears, cucumbers, tomatoes. All transport easily in their own biodegradable packaging and don’t require cutting to eat. Yes, I’ve eaten a cucumber without slicing it but I insisted on washing it first to get that waxy stuff off. Bleh!

Cooked chicken breasts slip easily into sandwich baggies and travel well. If I’m going to be out during hot weather, I freeze them first so they don’t re-cook in my purse. Dump some frozen broccoli or cauliflower in with the chicken, sprinkle some garlic salt, shake and lunchtime on the go! You don’t even need a fork as your fingers will do just fine.

Protein bars (in cooler weather) and protein powder also travel well. Sometimes I put protein powder in a shaker and stick that in my car. All I need is a water fountain and I’m set. If you put your mind to it, you really can eat healthy with as little effort as it takes to find a restaurant and park. So if you see me out there with my vat of spinach, come on over and say hi!
