Is The Six Pack Quest Almost Complete?!

Getting close to that 6 pack!

Since I posted earlier this week about changing over from primal to paleo, I’ve gotten some questions on what exactly I’ve changed about my eating. The eating is pretty similar in that you don’t eat grains, oats, legumes, and things like that in either version. Primal allowed for dairy and encourages startchy carbs for athletes.

Paleo is more restrictive for lack of a better word this early in the morning. Since I’ve gone back and forth between paleo and primal for a couple years now, the switch wasn’t even really noticeable to me mentally. In fact, I haven’t had any problems at all with energy and I’m still kicking butt in the gym.

Here is a list of the things that I took out completely this last week:

  • Artificial sweeteners (splenda, stevia, etc)
  • Diet sodas
  • Dairy of any kind (even in my coffee!)
  • Sweet potatoes and squash
  • Bananas
  • Protein powder and protein bars

I was going to add my Low Carb Monster to the list since I fully intended to take that out completely. I gave in and had just one this week which is great progress. I love the taste of it and could probably drink it by the gallon!

I also dropped my fruit to only one serving prior to my workout. Since I can’t get completely out of control during the cutting phase, I’m still weighing and measuring everything that I eat and tracking the macros. That way I have a good starting point, and I can make adjustments if I need to if I start to gain. I can also show my trainer exactly what I’m eating if he asks.

I’ve got a ton more muscle definition lately than two weeks ago as evidenced in the pic above. I’m pretty dang close to a 6 pack at last. The pic was taken last night so those are “night abs” after eating all day. My morning abs are even more defined and exciting for me. I’m still in shock at the progress so I apologize for all the pics. It’s more so I have concrete evidence to look at because it still doesn’t seem real.

My calories have actually gone up a little bit from before and I’m now eating right around 1800 calories a day. I was eating 1500 – 1700 before this. The macros are also very different. I am eating a lot less carbs and a lot more fat than before.

Interestingly enough, the scale is still dropping a bit from Monday even despite a huge drop for me last week. This isn’t a bad thing but something that I’ll have to watch so that I don’t lose strength or muscle instead of fat. I’ve got my weekly weigh in on Monday with my trainer to check in.

My goal is to be right at 10% BF (or maybe a little lower if I can swing it) by November 18th. This should definitely be doable even with cheats thrown in between now and then. November 18th is going to be a big day. I’m going to keep you in suspense a bit on what’s to come. 😉

Let me know if you have more questions. You know me, I’m always willing to give an opinion. Happy Friday! xo
